Albert Park Lake Water Harvesting Project

Contek was engaged by Parks Victoria to install a stormwater harvesting system to harvest water from Cowderoy Street Main Drain into Albert Park Lake. It involved construction of a 8m deep Gross Pollutant Trap which was the largest in Australia at the time. The project also included a 200kl underwater storage tank, balance pits, and a large diversion chamber the main drain which was continually active throughout the construction period. Ground water was encountered at approximately 2m deep and required constant management along with the base flows within the main drain. Contek was able to put this water to good use and water adjacent sports fields prior to a Polo match. Contek was proud to be awarded the Category 1 Civil Contractors Federation Earth Award 2008 for this project and to assist in filling up the lake during a very long drought.
