Essendon North Primary School – Oval Upgrade

Contek was engaged by the Department of Education to carry out the major overhaul of the oval at Essendon North Primary School. Significant decontamination works had been undertaken prior to Contek beginning works on the site. For this reason, the project was under incredible scrutiny, both from the Department and the public at large.
Given the potential of uncovering further contamination, no further earthworks were allowed on the site, requiring Contek to develop new methodologies to ensure that the project could be constructed as designed.
Colourful synthetic turf with sports field and athletics linemarking was laid upon a finely graded crushed rock pavement, with concrete kerb and channel conveying runoff to new stormwater infrastructure.
A new terraced viewing area was constructed with designer blocks and cappers and synthetic turf infills. The project also included the overhaul of an existing basketball court, with synthetic turf applied and new rings and backboards installed.
Given the high level of public scrutiny, it was imperative that this project be carried out in a timely fashion. Contek was pleased to hand the oval over to a very satisfied client and a very excited school!
