Federation Wharf Fender Replacements

Federation Wharf is a bustling tourist and commuter area on the banks of the Yarra River in Melbourne's CBD.

Parks Victoria engaged Contek to remove the existing wooden fenders along the wharf, replacing them with durable recycled plastic fenders. This activity was made complex by the need to avoid business interruption for local businesses and tour ferries that operated from the wharf.

In order to minimise our worksite footprint, and to enable the wharf to be fully functioning outside of work hours, Contek pre-fabricated the new fenders in our yard. By utilising the Just-In-Time method,  we delivered the new fenders, removed the old ones and installed the new panels all in the same day. By taking these steps, stakeholders and tourists suffered minimal inconvenience throughout the project.

Main Scope:

• Removal of existing timber fenders
• Installation of new recycled plastic
• Minimise disruption to ferries and local business
