North Road GPT Upgrades

Contek was engaged by Bayside City Council to improve the quality of stormwater entering the bay around Brighton by replacing a blocked and poor performing GPT with a new one. The GPT was also provided with penstocks, electrical actuators to aid maintenance and slow down any potential spills or contamination making its way to the bay. Working less than 50m from the low tide mark on an existing 525mm ocean outfall drain and requiring an excavation of approximately 5m deep, Contek was constantly managing base flows within the pipe, tidal fluctuations coming upstream and a perched water table at approximately 1.6m deep. Continual pumping was required for the duration of the project. To avoid any sediment laden water entering the bay or polluting the local environment, multiple cleaning devices were employed without any reportable incidents.
Using a comprehensive site and traffic management plan, Contek was able to maintain continual traffic flow and 95% of available parking for park users. Hydro excavation was utilised to ensure the existing palm tree's roots were identified and protected throughout the construction process
